Before You Come

Thinking about coming to a Kindred gathering?

Here are answers to some common questions so you can feel prepared, comfortable, and confident that there’s a place for you here.

  • Kindred is a community for moms and other female primary caregivers raising children with special needs to find connection, encouragement, and hope alongside other moms who understand the journey.

  • Kindred is specifically created for moms and primary female caregivers raising children with special needs. Because these events are designed to be a place where moms can openly share, rest, and connect with others who understand this unique journey, we ask that attendees be the primary female caregiver of a child with special needs.

If you are a woman looking for community and friendship but do not have a child with special needs, we’d love to encourage you to check out Soul Sisters, another wonderful space for women to connect.

  • No. Kindred includes moms/female primary caregivers raising children of all ages—from early diagnosis and young children to teens and adulthood. Our community also represents a wide range of diagnoses and support needs. No matter where you are in your journey or what your child’s diagnosis may be, you are welcome here.

  • No. Kindred is a ministry based out of Harvester Christian Church, but you do not need to attend Harvester—or any church—to come. You also do not need to be a Christian to attend. We believe every mom deserves community, encouragement, and a place to belong, and all moms raising children with special needs are welcome at Kindred.

  • Most Kindred gatherings are designed to give moms a chance to rest, connect, and have meaningful conversation, so children do not typically attend. Because the children in our community span a wide range of ages, abilities, and diagnoses, we are not able to provide childcare.

However, during the warmer months we host additional monthly gatherings that include the children, giving families a chance to come together and allowing the kids to build friendships as well.

  • We understand that many moms in our community are already carrying the weight of therapies, medical bills, and extra expenses. Because of that, we do our best to keep Kindred gatherings either free or $10 and under whenever possible. Our goal is to remove barriers so every mom who needs community can come.

  • While we’re so grateful for the heart our community has for gathering together, we aren’t able to allow community-hosted events to be featured as official Kindred events on our website or Facebook page. However, we absolutely encourage moms to connect and create their own meetups! Our Facebook group is a great place to post an invitation for a playdate, coffee, or casual meetup with other moms in the community.

Let’s be friends!
